Betty Jean McEntire Crossley

Betty Jean Mc Entire Crossley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away June 3, 2005 at her home.

She was born February 12, 1929 in Ogden Utah, the sixth child of Marshall A. and Amy Taylor McEntire. Betty was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. She attended the University of Utah and worked briefly for Bearing Service Company before her marriage.

Betty Jean married John (Jack) H. Crossley of Salt Lake City February 26, 1949. They were later sealed in Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1963. Jack served a career in the U.S. Navy and as a navy wife she followed her husband wherever his assignments allowed her to go, to Bremerton WA, Albuquerque NM, Memphis TN, and finally to San Diego CA where they retired.

Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of her life, and served in many positions including Young Women President and Relief Society President.

Her greatest passions in life were her family and quilting. She was a member of the Golden Thimble Quilters, the Seaside Quilter Guild, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. For many years she served the San Diego community with service at the election polls and as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Betty is survived by her husband, John (Jack) H. Crossley of San Diego, and her three children, Jean (David) Sanders of Hemet, CA, Kenneth (Lorraine) Crossley of Spanish Fork, UT, Dale (Shelly) Crossley of Nampa, ID and 11 grandchildren who were the delight of her life: Christopher, Jonathan, Brian, Jamie, Carren, Scott, Kendall, Dallin, Janna, Andrew and Amy; and one great granddaughter, Jocelynn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Her influence in the lives of her family, friends and associates was immeasurable. Her absence will leave a permanent void in the lives of all that loved and knew her.

Services and burial will be in Roy, UT. Memorial services will be held in the San Diego area at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Betty's name to the American Diabetes Association.
